Repair is building a national Jewish service movement that mobilizes young adults to serve in their communities, catalyzes service through deep partnerships within Jewish communal organizations, and inspires people to take action through time-bound thematic national service campaigns, digital engagement, and service. Position Overview

Are you a passionate storyteller who thrives in a learning and iterating environment, moving from strategy creation to execution, motivating a team along with you? Repair the World is seeking an experienced and adaptive leader to serve as its Senior Director of Marketing & Communications to shape our storytelling strategy as a leading Jewish service organization in a unique moment of expansion. Repair is in an exciting growth phase and the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications will play a key role in leveraging recent funding growth and attention as springboards to future expansion. This role will guide, lead, and implement our strategic storytelling work for multiple target audiences, including young adults, donors, partners, staff, board, and other stakeholders to hone our tone and voice in all external communications further clarifying our brand.

This new position is on Repair’s national team, reports to the Chief Strategy Officer, and will ideally be located in one of Repair’s communities (Atlanta, Baltimore, Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Pittsburgh). As a key member of the Strategy Leadership Team, they will collaborate closely with the strategy (development, digital/data, marketing & communications) and program teams, as well as executive leadership to enhance Repair’s storytelling approach, focusing on the impact Repair the World has on participants, partner organizations, and the communities we serve. The Senior Director will lead the day-to-day operations of the communications department including supervising and coaching a high-performing team of staff and consultants, overseeing and analyzing metrics, and translating strategy into implementation.

Position Responsibilities

Storytelling Strategy | Vision & Implementation

  • In partnership with team leads, develop, implement, and evaluate a cohesive storytelling strategy across all communication platforms (digital, social, traditional collateral, and publicity), weaving these efforts into the fabric of the organization as part of Repair’s adaptive strategy to build a Jewish service movement.
  • Coordinate storytelling strategy across Repair’s growing programs and offerings internally, and grow our storytelling work with partners including Jewish Service Alliance organizations.
  • Oversee a culture of storytelling across the organization, training our Board, staff, funders, volunteers, and alumni to be stronger brand ambassadors and storytellers to tell Repair’s story in collaboration with the team.
  • Support and lead work in partnership with lay leaders on Repair’s Storytelling Task Force.
  • Collaborate with Senior Director of Philanthropy on messaging and storytelling for donor audiences, as well as assisting with grant reporting as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Digital Strategy on increasing Repair’s online presence as a marketing tool, specifically around Repair’s goals of measurement and evaluation, thinking critically about how storytelling and data can work hand in hand.

Supervision & Leadership

  • Lead, coach, supervise, and inspire a team of marketing and communication professionals (Marketing and Communications Senior Manager, Marketing and Recruitment Associate, and Social Media and Marketing Associate) and consultants, including supervision of social media, recruitment, and marketing & communications work.
  • Manage and implement the strategic, operational, and fiscal management of the marketing and communications department and related work, including crafting, tracking, and analyzing storytelling goals and key storytelling data metrics in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Serve on the Strategy Leadership Team providing cross-functional leadership for the strategy team alongside Chief Strategy Officer, Senior Director of Philanthropy, and Senior Director of Digital Strategy.
  • Serve as a representative of the organization as necessary.

Branding Strategy

  • Develop and refine Repair’s "core" messages and voice across core target audiences (young adult participants, partners, and donors) to support our growth, share the story of the Jewish service movement, and ensure organizational consistency, both internally and externally.
  • Create and oversee the production of print materials, digital, media outreach, email newsletters, donor communications, social media, special event collateral, swag, and other content with a keen eye to brand and voice for a variety of strategic audiences in collaboration with the team.
  • Oversee and approve the dissemination of digital content, specifically copy and imagery, for all Repair’s digital assets, including email, online press, stories on our blog, overall website content, fundraising materials, campaign materials, and social media.

PR, Marketing & External Messaging

  • Strategize and lead our PR work; partner with PR consultant to draft and issue external communications pieces, including press releases; talking points; fact sheets; opinion pieces on key narrative change topics and issues as well as take an active and advisory role in rapid response communications needs.
  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan for the CEO and executive team, including assisting with communication needs such as talking points, speech writing, reporting templates, and overall positioning in Jewish and national service spaces.
  • Collaborate with regional program leadership on the strategy for local brand awareness and media opportunities.

Position Requirements and Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in marketing and communications, including 5+ years of direct management/supervisory experience, building and managing successful teams led by a clear vision and strategic goals.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, experience leading with a learning posture, and thriving in a collaborative team-driven environment.
  • Ability to seize opportunities, manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously, make data-driven decisions, and learn and course-correct in real-time.
  • Proven ability to partner collaboratively with executive leadership and young adults in managing comprehensive strategic communications and alignment; skilled in relationship building across lines of difference.
  • Track record of being able to quickly synthesize, categorize and prioritize information, data, multiple agendas, and competing needs.
  • Remarkable written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; significant experience in crafting and editing clear, compelling, and consistent communications, while building consensus and driving internal alignment.
  • Expertise in recognizing and engaging multiple target audiences while maintaining brand messaging and a unified voice, understanding which communications channels and platforms reach which audiences, and how marketing and communications are evolving.
  • Experience with Salesforce (or similar database), Pardot (or similar email marketing tool), and graphic design.
  • Experience working with the organized Jewish and/or service communities including key media relationships and an understanding of organizations within the ecosystem.
  • Passion for Repair the World’s mission and organizational values that guide our work with the frame of repairing the world (Tikkun Olam) leading to the pursuit of justice (Tzedek).

Compensation

Compensation at Repair the World is determined based on the salary band for the role and adjusted based on cost of living where the final candidate resides. For candidates with 8+ years of experience, compensation for this role starts at $100,000 - $120,000 depending on the city. Benefits package includes paid time off for service in addition to vacation and holidays, employer pays 100% for employee medical/dental/vision coverage and 50% for dependents, retirement matching, and professional development funds. In addition, employees that have been with Repair for at least a year are eligible for 12 weeks of paid parental leave.

The process for the hired applicant will include the following steps:

  • Applicants who move forward will have a first-round screening with a member of Repair’s HR/Operations team.
  • Applicants that move forward from a first-round interview will be asked to complete and submit a written assignment & have a second-round interview with the Marketing and Communications Senior Manager and Chief Strategy Officer.
  • The final round interview will be with Repair’s President and CEO and Senior Director of Philanthropy. The finalist may be asked to speak with a Repair the World national board member as well.
  • Two professional references will be requested before the final round of the interview process.
